Several seaplanes used the harbour to take tourists on sightseeing trips, or to take residents to remote island or coastal communities.
Our second day in Tofino, we took a boat tour to one of the islands about an hour's ride away.
Our destination was Maquinna Provincial Marine Park, a park on/by an island in the north end of Clayoquot Sound, featuring some hot springs. We docked at a small pier, then followed a boardwalk through the rainforest for about 40 minutes before finally reaching Hot Springs Cove, in a very natural, unspoiled setting, right among the rocks very near the shore in another part of the island. We donned our swimsuits and soaked in the very hot water for about half an hour before having to walk back and return to Tofino.
On the way back, we sighted some gray whales, but none of my shots were good enough to bother posting. However, the scenery itself was remarkable. Here are some of my favourite shots.
