Last Sunday we drove out to some friends’ for a barbecue and book discussion. (Book discussion for me and playtime with friends’ kids for Giggles.) We gave a lift to Giggles’ best grown-up friend, Cheerful. In the car as we were driving out, Giggles told a cute story, which went something like this (to the best of my memory):
‘Once upon a time there was a little girl donkey. She had a little brother donkey. The Mama donkey said “Be nice! Don’t hit or yell or shove.” But the little brother donkey hitted Mama and he had to go upstairs to his bedroom. The little girl donkey went upstairs too and said “Don’t cry! You just have to listen to Mama. When you listen to Mama, everyone is happy. We all cooperate and help each other, and then we’re happy.” So the little brother donkey stopped crying and came downstairs and helped Mama and Mama said “Thank you, little girl donkey! You were a good helper to your little brother.” The end.’
This type of story gets told often, but usually it’s one of her stuffed ponies being the helper… This was the first “little brother” story and it was sweet to hear.
