A moth!
We didn't know whether Sherman would turn into a caterpillar or a moth, and it turns out he is an ordinary little brown moth. We discovered him in his jar on Monday morning, 18 June, and in the evening we set him free by the pond near our house. (Sorry, didn't take a picture of him first.) So it took him 12 days to complete his transformation.
Giggles wasn't sure she wanted to set him free, but I reminded her that she had agreed to do so once he transformed, so she did, albeit reluctantly.
And promplty turned around and caught a different moth, a little orange one this time, to be her new pet.
