One year ago today our good friend W loaded the four of us – Laolao, Laoye, Mustang and me – into his van with our eight heavy, fat suitcases and four carry-ons and we headed off through the swirling snow to the distant airport from which our journey to Ethiopia – and to a bright little boy – would begin. Some 22 hours later we landed in Addis Ababa.
Owing to our planned tours, it took another nine days before we met that little boy, and another seven days after that before he joined us. But in the past 11 ½ months, the bright little Button boy has become an integral part of our family. I can, now, hardly imagine life without him.
