Wow. Sounds like quite the trip. Any chance you can post to this blog (at least once or twice) while you're there? In any case, have a fantastic trip!

Sandra, yes we found a rental house for the whole month. A friend of a friend is working in Addis and she has been EXTREMELY helpful in finding a place, negotiating with landlord, getting it tidied up and ready for us. Very nice to know we'll have a home-away-from-home while there.

K - Yes, while blogspot per se is apparently blocked from Ethiopia, I should be able to post to it by e-mailing to a special address. (Otherwise I'll e-mail posts to a friend and have her do the updates for me!) I'm hoping/planning to do so at least every few days (doubt I'll be able to equal your record of daily posts, but internet in Ethiopia is not as easy as in China!).

I like your sense of adventure. Have a wonderful trip!!! I am in process of updating my daughter's passport because somewhere along the way we both stopped travelling and it appears to have expired. I doubt that she'll be coming to Ethiopia with me and my dad in 2009 (???) but who can say for sure. Thank you for reminding me why we keep passports.

Actually, Malia's Mama, it's not as scheduled as it looks. You'll notice the only really "scheduled" parts are the two tours we're taking. And as you noted, tour operators have to have a schedule! But the parts where we're on our own are pretty much open and we'll be doing whatever happens to come along or we can think of doing.

I'm a bit of both - like to have some overall structure, but for the day-to-day details like to have flexibility and freedom to make (and maybe change) plans a bit on the fly.

On the other hand, Giggles likes to know what's happening. But seeing as I usually review the coming day with her at bedtime, that does leave a fair bit of room for flexibility.
